Website vs microsite: which do you need?

A full website is your whole business online. A microsite is a small site about one thing, and it is usually faster to get right.

What a full website is for

A main site carries everything: every service, every location, careers, news, support, the lot. It is the address you print on the truck.

That breadth costs time. More pages mean more upkeep, more people involved, and more chances for something to go quietly out of date.

Main sites also carry obligations. Legal pages, accessibility, support content and the careers section all live there, and each one needs an owner.

There is a cost inside the company too. Every change to the main site touches somebody else's page, so small edits take weeks.

It is still the right call when people arrive knowing your name and wanting all of it.

What a microsite is for

A microsite covers one subject on its own address. One product, one location, one campaign, one domain you already own.

Because the scope is small, the whole site stays on topic. Every page supports the same question, which makes it easy to read and easy to update.

Scope is what makes the difference. Since the site covers one subject, you can name every page in it out loud from memory.

Microsites are easier to hand over as well. One owner, one subject, and a short list of pages to keep current.

It also gives you room to try something without touching the main site — a new service line, a partner campaign, a name you have been sitting on.

How to choose without regret

Answer these four and the choice usually makes itself.

If the subject is narrow and you already own a fitting name, a microsite is the shorter road. If your whole business is the subject, build the main site properly instead.

And if two of your answers point in different directions, start with the smaller build. You can always grow it later.

How Microsite Generator handles this

The platform builds the second kind. Each site runs up to 25, 50 or 100 pages with its own structure and internal links, which is plenty for one subject.

You can run several at once under one plan, from 25 sites on Growth up to 300 on the Platform plan.

Page counts are capped for a reason. A capped site pushes you toward pages that are genuinely useful instead of pages that merely exist.

Every one of them is individually built and checked against Google Search Essentials and modern web standards before it goes live.

Frequently asked questions

Can a microsite replace my main website?

It can if your business is really one subject. Most companies keep the main site and use microsites for specific things.

Does running two sites split my audience?

Not if they cover different subjects and link to each other where it makes sense.

Is a microsite cheaper than a full website?

Usually, because it is smaller. The saving is mostly in the time it takes to build and keep current.

How big can a microsite get?

Up to 100 pages, depending on your plan. The cap is deliberate.
