SEO microsite

An SEO microsite is a small site built around one subject so search engines can find, read and understand it. It is a structure choice, and there is nothing clever about it.

What makes a site an SEO microsite

The whole site points at one subject. The home page states that subject plainly, and the inner pages break it into the parts that people actually search for.

Nothing here is exotic. You need clear titles, clean addresses, real answers on the page, and links between the pages that belong together.

The shape is the easy part. Filling it with something worth reading is the work that decides whether the site deserves to exist. A small site with a clear subject is also far easier to keep current than a sprawling one.

Structure alone does not make a page worth reading. It only makes the page easy to understand, which is where the real work starts.

Where these sites go wrong

The failure is always the same one. Someone takes a single page, swaps the city name in and out, and publishes the result again and again.

Google Search Essentials describe that as doorway pages, and describe bulk pages with little value as scaled content abuse. Both are named problems with published descriptions, so neither of them is a surprise to anybody.

The fix is dull and it works. Write each page for one reader who arrived with that exact question in mind.

Owners rarely set out to build doorway pages. It usually happens because a deadline arrived and copying looked faster than writing.

How to tell if a page earns its place

Run this short test on any page you are unsure about, and be strict with yourself about the answers.

A page that fails most of those questions is really a section of another page. Merge the two and the site gets stronger.

How Microsite Generator handles this

The platform's page generator refuses pages that are a template with the town swapped, and edits that make pages too alike are refused too.

A page that fails a must-pass check does not go live — that is the point of running the check first. Sites are capped at up to 25, 50 or 100 pages, each one individually built and checked against Google Search Essentials and modern web standards before it goes live.

None of that is a promise about where a page appears in search. It is a check on whether the page has anything of its own to say.

Frequently asked questions

How many pages should an SEO microsite have?

As many as you have real answers for, and no more. A small site of strong pages is easier to keep true than a big thin one.

Is a microsite better than a blog?

They do different jobs. A blog grows over time. A microsite covers one subject and then stops.

Do I need a separate domain?

No. A folder or a subdomain on your main site can hold the same structure.

What is scaled content abuse?

It is the term Google Search Essentials use for pages made in bulk with little value, whatever tool made them.
