Type-In Traffic
Where direct visits come from
Some names get typed because they describe a thing. Someone wants a plumber in their city and tries the obvious address.
Others get typed because a person remembers them, whether from a van, a sign, a card, or a name a friend said.
Misspellings count as well. If your name is easy to get slightly wrong, some of those visits are people trying to reach you.
Older names collect these visits without any help. If a domain has been in use for years, people who knew it then still try it now.
The number of visits is usually small and steady. What makes them interesting is intent, not size.
What a visitor finds when they arrive
A holding page answers nothing. The visitor leaves, and you never learn what they wanted.
A page with real content gets a chance to help. It can say what the business does, where it works, and how to start a conversation.
There is a quieter loss as well. A person who typed your name was already interested, and an empty page is the least interesting thing you can hand them.
These are also the least fussy visitors you will ever get. They came for you, so the page only has to be clear.
That is the whole difference — the same visit, two very different endings.
How to make the arrival worth it
You do not need a big site for this. You need a page that behaves like a front door.
Keep the page honest about what you do not do. Someone who arrives at the wrong address will thank you for telling them quickly.
Put the contact detail near the top as well, not only in the footer.
- Say what this is in the first line, in the words a stranger would use.
- Show where you work, if where matters.
- Give one obvious next step and keep it in view.
- Load fast and stay readable at any width.
How Microsite Generator handles this
Point the name at a real site and the front door takes care of itself. Publishing takes one CNAME record, and the certificate is issued for you.
Pages are written from a conversation about your business, so the front door says something specific rather than something generic.
Page views and conversions are counted on our servers. No script and no cookie are added to your site, so you can see what direct visits do without loading the page down.
Every page is individually built, then checked by the compliance gate against Google Search Essentials and modern web standards. A genuinely useful page is what someone who typed your name deserves.

Frequently asked questions
What counts as a direct visit?
Any visit where someone types the address instead of clicking a search result or a link.
How do I know if I am getting any?
Check direct visits in your analytics. Microsite Generator counts page views on the server, with no script added to your site.
Is a holding page enough?
It answers nothing, so the visit ends there. Even one honest page gives the visitor something to do.
Does this only matter for descriptive names?
No. Any name people see on a van, a sign or a card can get typed in.
