The lead form settings you control
The settings in one place
This page lists the settings that shape your lead form and what happens to a lead after it is sent. For what the guided form does for a visitor, see guided two-step lead forms. For what you do with a lead afterwards, see lead status, notes and export.
Where the form sits on your home page
You can choose where your lead form sits: under the headline, beside the headline on the left or the right, after your services, or near the bottom. It is the same form wherever it sits. Ask the agent to move it, or set it on the Design page. The agent shows you each change before it saves it.
Phones can also show a bar at the bottom of the screen with a button to your form and, when your site has a phone number, a call button.
The heading above the form
The heading above your contact form is always a short call to action. If a longer goal sentence was saved with your site, visitors do not see it above the form. The form shows a short call to action instead, and what you saved is kept unchanged.
Questions that come first
You can define up to three lead form questions. Each is a set of choices a visitor picks from, such as "AC repair" or "New installation", and each choice can have an optional follow-up question that appears only when that choice is selected. The form becomes a two-step: what they need first, contact details second.
The visitor's choice and their follow-up answer arrive with every lead, in your email notification, your dashboard, your CSV and Excel exports, and webhook deliveries. Leave the options empty and you keep the classic single-step form.
An updates checkbox, off until you want it
Turn on the setting that asks visitors if they would like occasional updates, and your lead form gains an unticked checkbox. A visitor who ticks it is marked as opted in on the lead. That is the only way a lead reaches a connected mailing list on a site that asks. A visitor who leaves it unticked still reaches you and your other connected destinations as every lead does. Leave the setting off and nothing changes.
A Text us link
Tick the setting that says your phone number accepts text messages, and every place your site shows your phone number also shows a Text us link. On a phone it opens the visitor's own messaging app with your number filled in. It is a plain link to your own number, so nothing loads and nothing is tracked. Leave it unticked and nothing changes.
The mailing address on form emails
In Settings you can give each site its own mailing address, and a P.O. Box works. It appears at the bottom of the automatic reply a visitor gets after filling out that site's form, and at the bottom of any follow-up emails. It is never shown on your other sites or anyone else's. You can also save one address as your default for every site. Follow-up emails need an address by law, so they stay off for a site without one. The step before publishing reminds you if a site has none, and you can still publish. The page on your domain and your site's address has the details.
A Book a time section
Paste your scheduler link and your site gets a Book a time section. Supported schedulers include Calendly, Cal.com and Acuity Scheduling, among others. The scheduler loads only when a visitor clicks to open it, which keeps your site fast and means no third-party tracking runs until the visitor chooses. Bookings happen in your scheduler's system, and leads from your form still arrive in your dashboard and your email as usual. See online booking.
Spam check and where leads go
The spam check on your contact form works the same way on every address your site is published on, including your own domain, and there is nothing to set up.
A lead goes to the email address you give us, which can be different for each site, so enquiries from one site never land in the same place as another's. We do not provide email addresses, mailboxes or forwarding. Every lead is also stored on your Leads screen, with every field the visitor filled in, so a lead is never only in an email. To change where leads go, update the address on the site. You can also pick your U.S. time zone in Account settings, and every lead's time then displays in it.
What it does not do
- The updates checkbox is never ticked for the visitor, and leaving it off changes nothing.
- Follow-up emails do not go out for a site without a mailing address.
- Free-form extra fields of your own on the form are not built yet. When you ask for one, the agent says so and offers to send your request to the team.
- The number beside a lead measures how complete and reachable the submission is. It does not predict whether the person becomes a customer.
